2023 - 2024 marks our 59th Year!

Allow us to share with you the history of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council. Its inception was the result of conversations among several practitioners in the various disciplines involved in Estate Planning. By exchanging ideas and their concerns for enhancement of the professional service available to existing and future clients, a conclusion became apparent – the West Coast of Florida, south of the Skyway Bridge, was ready for its own Estate Planning Council.

There was continuing mutual interest and confidence in the premise that the client is best served by competent members of each discipline, who understand and respect one another’s role, working as a team to solve the client’s problems. Some months later the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council was organized in 1964.

Our purpose is to encourage the highest level of professional service in the Estate Planning field by mutual involvement in:

  • Understanding the role of each discipline in the total planning process.
  • Fostering the team concept to provide broad input based on the experience and knowledge of each member.
  • Understanding the client and his or her potential problems in depth.
  • Providing continuing educational opportunities related to Estate Planning at regularly scheduled monthly meetings.
  • Cooperating with organizations of the various disciplines as sponsors for formal educational opportunities within our geographical area.
  • Appreciating one another more as the result of regular fellowship.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County

In 1979, seeing a need for a professional, dedicated organization to manage the charitable gifts provided by its clients, the board of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council sponsored the formation of a community foundation for all of Sarasota County.

Membership with our Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council affords quality educational, networking, mentoring and fellowship opportunities. Your annual dues provide you complimentary attendance for all local meetings and our annual outing.  (Your local membership in SWFEPC also grants you access to the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.)
