Each year the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council invites a local organization to provide a meaningful update about issues affecting our community and programs making a positive impact. This annual event is known as our "Charity Night."

On October 17th, we look forward to shining a light on an organization that focuses on nurturing
healthy child and family development through research-based, relationship-centered education and mental health services.

2023 Charity Night with Forty Carrots Family Center
A special update by Forty Carrots CEO Michelle Kapreilian
    Tuesday, October 17, 2023

Founded in 1993, Forty Carrots Family Center is guided by a vision that all parents will provide their children with experiences and environments that are emotionally and physically safe so that they can grow into capable and caring young people. The early years of life are crucially important to the overall development of our children and therefore offer unprecedented opportunities to provide experiences that have lifelong positive impact. Forty Carrots serves children and families of Sarasota and Manatee Counties, regardless of their ability to pay. Impact is accomplished through three service components:

PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAM aims to empower families with the tools they need to ensure positive outcomes, both short-term and long-term, for children. We believe strongly that all families should have access to parenting education, and strive to make appropriate services available for families from all walks of life. Our Free Community Outreach Program travels throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties utilizing community partnerships to efficiently and conveniently deliver critical information and support.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES are offered for children, adolescents and families to nurture positive change and reinforce healthy familial relationships. We believe that intervention is critical, ensuring that every child can experience positive early relationships to become more resilient to stress and develop other aspects of emotional regulation. From our Infant Mental Health services offered at CYESIS Teen Parent Program at Riverview High School to our Child & Family Therapy Center, we provide different models and therapeutic approaches to help individuals facing myriad challenges.

NATIONALLY ACCREDITED (NAEYC) PRESCHOOL prepares children for success in school and in life by nurturing the whole child through a developmentally appropriate, play-based approach using the Creative Curriculum. Graduates leave with the social skills, academic knowledge and love for learning that set the stage for future success.

Ron is a Fellow and former President (2003-2004) of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a former academician of The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and member of its Council (2000-2004), a former Vice Chair (Committee Operations) of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation (1998-2000), a former Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, and a member of the Christian Legal Society.  He is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Philip E. Ron was awarded the 1995-1996 Estate Planner of the Year Award by the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council; was recognized as one of Washington, D.C.’s 31 “Best Lawyers” in the December 2011 issue of the Washingtonian; held Chambers USA’s “Band 1” ranking for Wealth Management while in private practice; and in 2009 was elected to the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils Estate Planning Hall of Fame with the designation of Distinguished Accredited Estate Planner.

Ron received a B.A. degree in 1967 and a J.D. degree in 1975, both from the University of Minnesota.  He was in the Navy from 1970 to 1973, served in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War, and attained the rank of Lieutenant.
