The CARES and SECURE Act as well as the recent presidential election will have a significant impact on charitable giving strategies. Please join us for a discussion on how recent tax legislation has changed planned giving strategies. Our discussion will include an overview of the tax ramifications of charitable giving, the changes in the rules for “qualified charitable distributions” from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA), how the changes in the retirement plan distribution rules as well as potential increases in the capital gain rates may make charitable remainder trusts more attractive and the benefits of naming a charity as the beneficiary of an IRA. In addition, we will discuss the benefits of gifting appreciated assets, donor advised funds, charitable gift annuities and the benefits of using a charitable lead trust in the current low interest rate environment.
